What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is a traditional system of care that considers the individual. Rather than assuming one approach suits everyone, it gives attention to a person's circumstances when thinking about what may be appropriate.

At The Mist, treatments follow traditional Ayurvedic practices under the guidance of an Ayurvedic doctor. Some may be relaxing, but they are not presented as a conventional spa massage menu. The approach begins with understanding the guest.

What this means for your visit

You can begin with a question rather than a treatment name. If an option interests you, you can mention it; if you are unsure where to start, you can say that too. No previous Ayurveda knowledge or terminology is needed to ask.

Before treatment, an Ayurvedic doctor consultation is required. You may also enquire about a consultation without booking a treatment.

Your consultation, step by step

The conversation gives the doctor an opportunity to understand your circumstances and discuss what may be appropriate.

  1. We Talk

You can tell the doctor how you are feeling, about your general health and lifestyle, any concerns, and what you hope to gain from your visit. You may mention a treatment that interests you without making a final choice.

  2. I Assess

The doctor carries out an Ayurvedic assessment using the information you share. She may also consider your individual constitution, known as Prakriti. You do not need to identify a type yourself; a website description cannot make this assessment.

  3. I Guide

The doctor explains which treatment or treatments may be appropriate and what you can expect. You can ask questions before deciding whether to proceed.

Guidance from an Ayurvedic doctor

Dr. Walpolage Sandamali Samanthi is the Ayurvedic Consultant Doctor at The Mist. She holds a BAMS — Grade I qualification. Her guidance helps guests understand which traditional Ayurvedic treatments may be appropriate before they decide whether to proceed.
